The Cascahuin company was started in 1904 by Salvador Rosales Briseño in the town of El Arenal, Jalisco, Mexico - the home of tequila - where it is still produced today in their distillery that was built in 1955. The business has remained in the family, afterwards being passed on to his son Salvador Rosales Torres, and grandson Salvador "Chava" Rosales Trejo after that.

Cascahuin is known in the region of Jalisco for being a remarkable top-tier premium tequila, recognised as one of the best. Over the years there have been new technological advancements in how tequila is manufactured and the equipment that’s used, but what’s so special about Cascahuin is how dedicated they’ve been to sticking to the authentic traditional Mexican ways of producing tequila, valuing a high-quality product over ‘doing it the easy way’.

Cascahuin Reposado Tequila rests in oak barrels for 6 to 8 months giving it that beautiful crispy oaky taste (as well the straw-yellow colour).

Alongside Cascahuin Reposado, the brand offers 4 other luxurious variations of their tequila.

What Makes Cascahuin Reposado Tequila Special?

One of the ways that Cascahuin has retained its ‘old school’ Mexican way - the real way - to make Cascahuin Reposado Tequila is by continuing to use a ‘Tahona wheel’ for production, also known as a ‘Tahona stone’.

Additionally Cascahuin Reposado tequila is produced with deep well spring water which has a massive impact on the flavour and character of the tequila. This type of water has a really high level of purity because it’s naturally filtered through rock and soil, containing minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium which can add a subtle taste to the tequila.

Aside from the purity of the water, Cascahuin takes it that extra step further to ensure that high quality by adding no preservatives, additives or artificial sweeteners whatsoever to their Cascahuin Reposado.

Cascahuin have kept up the tradition of using copper distillation pots because copper is such a great heat conductor and thus has a large impact on improving the taste and quality of the final products. In comparison, most other manufacturers have switched to stainless steel pots as they are cheaper, easier to clean and so cheaper to use.

Cascahuin Reposado Review

Nose

Honey and vanilla scents, with an aroma of cooked agave and earthy/dry land essences.

Taste

A balanced palate of sweet cooked agave, vanilla and wood (from having aged in American oak barrels).

Aftertaste

Silky finish, hints of agave, pepper and caramel.

Appearance

Cascahuin Reposado Tequila is clear in colour with a slightly straw-yellow hint from having aged in an oak barrel for 6-8 months.

Price

Cascahuin Tequila Reposado sits comfortably in the middle price range when compared to other reposados, what must be remembered however, is that this tequila is additive and preservative free and uses traditional methods for production, something unique that most other reposado tequilas cannot offer.
